Why do you volunteer with us?

Posted: 25 May 2016

How long have you been a volunteer at HCT?

I joined HCT in January 2016 (5 months). I volunteer half day, every Wednesday and Friday.

Why do you volunteer with Community Transport (HCT)?

The reason I volunteer is because I found HCT very interesting and wanted to know more about what you do. I think it is great that you get people out and about. I was keen to learn new skills and as you are national, I was hoping that I could learn more by moving around your depots.

What motivates you to continue to volunteer for HCT?

I am motivated by learning and developing myself. In LaSCot you have a different team and I am the only volunteer – It would be great to see more of this in LaSCot. In Hackney you have lot’s of volunteers, from admin, through to drivers and outreach – which is fantastic for the organisation and also for the individual.

What us your role?

I am an admin volunteer, along with several others, based mainly in Hackney, but I have been to LaSCot too. I am involved in the back office functions, of filing, shredding, data entry for reports and internal meetings and also scanning timesheets.

What’s in it for you?

I am learning new skills, and meeting new people. I have travelled around London to your other depots. It keeps me focussed and I am happy as I am doing something that I enjoy; that makes a huge difference to my life.

Would you like to add anything else?

I found out about this opportunity through Hackney Volunteer Centre and I am always talking about HCT to my friends and family, as I think that what you do is great. I am pleased to be a part of your organisation.
